RECORD-BREAKING strong man Big Dave Gauder will be putting his weight behind a charity fun day taking place in Oldswinford next weekend.

Once the world’s strongest man, Dave will be the guest of honour at the community bash organised by Stourbridge police community support officers Sylvia Cooper and Rebecca Morris to help pull in the pounds for Children in Need and borough community youth group Youth4em.

The pair - from the Pedmore and Oldswinford neighbourhood team - have been working round the clock to put on the event, taking place this Sunday (August 23) on the King Edward VI College sports field in Swinford Road next to the TA centre.

West Midlands Police, fire crews, the Territorial Army, the Air Training Corps and the Army Cadet Force will also be out in force at the fun-day - which runs from 11am to 4pm.

Other attractions will include bungee runs, bouncy castle, raffle, farmers’ market, face-painting, football tournaments, tug-of-war competitions and charity car wash.

There will also be a live acoustic performance from Stourbridge singer (and tipped for the top author) Miranda Dickinson.

Wpc Helen Keeley and PCSO Toni Jones will also be giving out crime prevention and personal safety advice throughout the day.

PCSO Sylvia Cooper, from the Pedmore and Oldswinford neighbourhood team, said: “This family fun day is all about raising money for Children in Need and our local youth community group, Youth4em, who work alongside the police to tackle anti-social behaviour by painting over graffiti or doing litter picks.

“We hope to raise as much as possible - and have plenty of fun too.”

PCSO Morris added: “We would like to thank all of the local businesses that have helped us with the event.”
