GARY Hackett believes the Glassboys FA Cup exploits have helped put the club “on the map.”

The Glassboys first round clash with Walsall drew coverage from the national media and more than 2,000 fans packed into the War Memorial Ground for the game.

Stourbridge’s average attedance is around 250 this season and Hackett hopes the cup publicity, and the performance, will increase the club’s fanbase in the long-term.

He said: “I think if we can tag on 100 or 150 supporters onto the gate from this it will be fantastic for the club.

“There has been a lot attention over the last week, in a way it has put us on the map.”

Hackett’s sentiments were echoed by skipper Craig Slater, who said: “The ground was full and it was a great atmosphere.

“Hopefully they will come back, the way we played there is no reason they won’t.”

The right back admitted to having nerves before the game but admitted he was disappointed the Glassboys were unable to snatch a draw.

He said: “It was an open game and we gave a good account of ourselves.

“Everyone is disappointed we that we could not get something from the game.

“They had chances to make it two but we could have scored ourselves.”

On the TV cameras he added: “It’s nice to have them there but once you get out and start playing you forget about them.

“Hopefully they got my good points for the highlights show!”
