DURING a visit to Stourbridge Nick Clegg had his say on controversial plans for the borough glass collection.

Following a live TV broadcast from the town on Sunday March 21, The Liberal Democrat leader met party members from the region to discuss Dudley Council’s feasibility study into moving the collection to the Red House Cone in Wordsley.

The world-famous collection is currently on display at Broadfield House in Kingswinford and Lib Dem politicians have been at the forefront of a campaign against a move to the Cone.

Mr Clegg said: “I am deeply worried that the Conservative-run Dudley Council are planning on closing Broadfield House glass museum.

“They appear to simply be waiting until after the election to do it so as not to lose votes. The museum is of great importance locally, nationally and internationally.”

Kingswinford North councillor, Lynn Boleyn, added: “This museum is second in the world only to the Corning Museum in New York where 75 per cent of the glass comes from Stourbridge. It would appear that the Tories have a history of cutting budgets, knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing.”

In October last year a full meeting of Dudley Council voted to keep Broadfield House open unless an alternative site can be found.
