A ROBBER used a machete to damage the till and counter of a shop during a raid in Wollescote.

The man pulled out the weapon after the cashier did not take him seriously when he demanded money at Murco service station, Gauden Road, on Saturday October 30.

The offender got away with an unknown quantity of cash after running away when he was disturbed by a car pulling on to the forecourt.

Detective Constable Simon Pittaway, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “CCTV footage shows the offender approaching the forecourt of the garage from Wychbury Road which then leads onto the Queensway. After the robbery had taken place the man then ran back in the direction he came, past the row of shops on the Queensway.

“As the offender was on foot I believe he must know the area well. There is also a good chance that he was seen by people in the area, and I would urge anybody with information to get in touch with us.”

The robbery took place at about 10.50pm, the suspect is described as white, in his early twenties, of medium build with broad shoulders and he wore a white patterned jacket with the hood up and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Force CID at Harborne on 0345 113 5000.
