IT wasn’t such a nice day for a white wedding when snow almost put a Stourbridge couple’s nuptials on ice.

Husband-to-be Vim Gaglani and his groom’s party feared they would never make it to Our Lady and All Saints Church on time when heavy snow caused traffic chaos on the ring road, forcing them to ditch their car in Enville Street.

Wearing just their wedding suits - Vim, best man Glenn Chalk and the ushers started trekking through the snow-filled streets before managing to hitch a ride from a kind-hearted motorist in a 4x4.

Meanwhile bride Lucy Trinham’s mum and bridesmaids nearly became the slideaway bridal party when they were also forced to abandon their car, in Greenfield Avenue, and make a mad dash to church on foot.

Luckily the athletic bridesmaids and mother-of-the-bride took inspiration from Four Weddings and a Funeral and began pounding the snow-covered streets in their wedding finery - cheered on by gridlocked motorists.

Lucy’s mum Jo Trinham said: “Myself and the bridesmaids had to hitch up our skirts and run up the ring road, which was at a standstill. We were handed umbrellas from cars and there were lots of cheers.”

Chief bridesmaid Rachel Hardy - however - was forced to miss the service altogether after getting snow-stuck on the journey from Kidderminster - and joint best man Viren Gaglani, travelling from Hertfordshire, was delayed by an hour.

However - despite the chaotic journey to the altar, the rest of the proceedings eventually went off without a hitch.

Bride Lucy, who arrived at church in a Landrover - dressed stylishly in wedding gown and Ugg boots, said: “It was quite stressful at the time, but looking back now it was hilarious. I think I can safely say that no-one will forget our wedding in a hurry.”

Mum Jo said the way onlookers responded to the drama was “fantastic”.

She added: “We would like to say a massive thank you to all those people who went out of their way to help us and enabled the wedding to go ahead. Stourbridge people are the best.”

The couple, who had enjoyed an earlier Hindu wedding ceremony in July, later headed off for a sunshine holiday in Bali.

But not before experiencing a five-hour delay at Heathrow Airport and an unplanned stopover in Hong Kong as they missed their connecting flight.
