MUSIC fans will be able to enjoy a series of free band concerts taking place in parks across the borough this summer.

Himley Park, Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge and Stevens Park in Quarry Bank will be filled with the sounds of renowned brass and big bands on Sunday afternoons during May, June, July and August.

Summer concerts in Himley Park kick off this Sunday (May 29) with Paul Drakeley and the Allstars Band.

The same band will then be back at Himley on Sunday June 19 and the Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass will perform in the park grounds on Sunday July 24; with the AD Concert Band rounding off the series on Sunday August 7.

In Stevens Park, Quarry Bank, Black Country Brass will be performing on Sunday June 19 and Sunday June 26.

And there will be concerts throughout July in Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge.

Out of the Blue Big Band, performing in the park bandstand on July 3 and 10; while Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass will perform on July 17 and Paul Drakeley and the Allstars Band will be entertaining music fans on July 24.

Councillor David Stanley, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “The free band concerts offer a perfect opportunity for people to get out and about in three of our borough parks and enjoy afternoons of music. I am sure the events will prove extremely popular.”

All of the concerts are free and will run from 2.30 to 5pm.

While some seating will be provided, people are encouraged to take along their own picnic, chairs and a rug.

Himley Hall’s Oak Tea Room will be open for tea and cakes during each concert in the hall grounds.
