AMIABLE Wirral based comedian Dave Twentymen was the latest headliner at The Mitre’s successful Comedy Hut evening on a stiflingly hot night.

Perhaps best described as a younger, St Helen’s version of John Bishop - he took the crowd through snapshots of life with his partner and kids and an entertaining story of a stag night in Newcastle.

Twentymen cracked very few jokes but didn’t need to as his comedy was relevant and entertaining, keeping a crowd who had already seen three acts that night occupied.

Earlier, Britain’s Got Talent contestant Cal Halbert showed he really has, with an excellent, if slightly overlong, set which included comedy impressions mixed in with stand up and observations as well as interaction with the audience.

Support act Adam Rushton showed great promise, though possibly he needs to slow his delivery down as some of the jokes got lost with the Black Country audience struggling to pick up his broad Manchester accent.

Next up at The Mitre is TV comedienne and actress Susan Murray with support from Steve Allen on Wednesday September 7.
