THE family of an “inspirational” teacher killed in a Stourton car smash say they have been overwhelmed by grief.

Brenda Wilson died after she was hit by a car on the Bridgnorth Road at around 10.30am on Thursday August 4.

Mrs Wilson, aged 62, suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead later at Russells Hall Hospital, leaving her family devastated.

Her daughter, Laura Davies, aged 34, said: “It couldn’t be any worse, she was the love of our lives.

“We are completely overwhelmed with grief, so many people are utterly devastated.

“She helped people through so many things and had a positive impact, as a teacher she always put the children first and they loved her.

“She saw people for who they are and was very forward thinking.”

Mrs Wilson, of Meddins Lane, Kinver, was headteacher at St Anne’s Middle School in Bewdley which closed following a reorganisation of education in Wyre Forest and the popular teacher, who specialised in maths, moved to King Charles School in Kidderminster.

Her friend and former colleague, Gabrielle Wootton, said: “She was an innovative, exciting and energetic teacher, who inspired both her pupils and her colleagues. Many parents in the area valued the time and effort she gave to both them and their children.”

Mrs Wilson was killed as she walked on the footpath near Stourton Hall Farm with a friend who suffered minor injuries. The injured woman’s Yorkshire Terrier dog was with them and also died in the collision.

The driver of an Audi convertible car involved in the incident, a 53-year-old woman from Shropshire, was arrested and is on police bail until October while inquiries continue.

Mrs Wilson was a keen walker who recently completed a charity trek up Snowdon and a hike along the Ulster Way.

Daughter Laura added: “She had a fabulous life and did everything she wanted to do, I am so proud of her.”

Mrs Wilson also leaves behind a son, Edward, husband Michael and step sons Jon and Tim Wilson.

Her funeral service will take place on 2pm Friday August 19 at St Anne’s Church in Bewdley followed by cremation at 3.30pm in Stourbridge.

Such was her popularity, hundreds of people have already left their tributes on social networking site Facebook at R.I.P. Brenda Wilson.
