DUDLEY Kingswinford put together a strong performance to finally batter Broadstreet into submission after a disappointing first half.

It was indeed a game of two halves as Broadstreet led 12-10 at the break with the strong wind at their backs, sharing four tries with the hosts.

But in the second period DK ran in five unanswered tries to highlight their superiority in the game.

With regular backs Gareth Bown and Stefan Shillingford still unavailable through injury, DK fielded an unchanged side from last week’s defeat at the hands of South Leicester.

DK began the game well and good forward pressure saw them take the lead after only five minutes when Shaun Griffiths was driven over for an unconverted try.

Fly half Scott Harman was just short with an eighth minute penalty but it was the hosts asking all the questions at this stage. Tui Asi Pito almost went over on 16 minutes but the move was thwarted on the line.

Then a superlative break from Tom Weaver on 26 minutes with Matt Farrington in support was wasted by a poor pass. DK’s profligacy cost them dear when the visitors scored in their first real attack of the game when prop Peter Mills drove over following a maul in the DK 22 to make it all square.

Stung into action, DK re-took the lead after 37 minutes. Strong pressure on the Street line saw Ian Langford go close before the ball was moved wide to Farrington, who cut in at a fine angle to score an unconverted try.

However, in stoppage time Street managed to score a second well worked try after incisive play from their back line shredded the DK cover for fly half Scott Harman to cut in and score from 25 metres out.

Facing the strong breeze in the second period was always going to be a difficult prospect for the visitors and so it proved as DK rapidly regained the ascendency.

The first try was a superb effort begun with a stunning 40 metre midfield break from Jon Higgins and then great hands from Tom Weaver and Greg Lewis sent Simon Fletcher in at the posts. Higgins converted for DK to regain the lead 17-12.

After 49 minutes, DK gained a bonus point with a fourth try when after a fine break, the ball was lost under the Street posts only to be won back by Pete Knight’s spectacular re-ruck and moved left for skipper Ollie Shakespeare to crash over.

Following constant DK pressure a fifth try duly arrived after 58 minutes. Quick scrum ball to Higgins on the Street 22 and an exquisite pass found Farrington at full pace cutting in at an angle that totally defeated the Street cover. A superb move through several pairs of hands saw Ian Langford through after 65 minutes but the final pass to him was adjudged marginally forward.

DK’s sixth try after 73 minutes was a carbon copy of their fifth with Higgins taking another quick scrum ball inside the Street 22 and expertly sending in Farrington for his third try of the afternoon.

They then wrapped up the scoring in stoppage time when Farrington’s persistence rescued a loose ball and he passed to Langford on the burst - who cantered through for a fine seventh score.
