A REVAMPED day centre for people with profound and complex learning disabilities was officially opened by the Mayor of Dudley in Amblecote today (Monday November 28).

The former Amblecote Social Education Centre on Brettell Lane has undergone a £1.2m re-fit and has been re-named The Unicorn Centre.

Improvements to the centre include three multi-sensory rooms, a music room with specialist interactive equipment and a computer suite.

There will also be rooms for art work and general group interaction plus new extra changing and toilet facilities.

Councillor David Vickers, Dudley’s cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “In response to changes to the ways in which social care is provided the investment in The Unicorn Centre offers a specialised service which many people in the borough with severe disabilities will choose to use.

“I’m delighted with the design of the building which provides a light and airy environment with areas set aside for relaxation and social interaction.”
