DUDLEY Kingswinford capped off a memorable year with a comfortable win at Broadstreet.

The hosts are having a difficult season but they are always tough opposition on their own ground and DK did well to keep focused throughout the game.

They should perhaps have scored at least two more tries and certainly conceded one too many but watching player coaches Pete Knight and Jon Higgins, both carrying injuries, would have happily settled for this result at 2.15pm.

Besides Knight and Higgins, DK were also without last week’s Man of the match Al Francis who was rested but Rich Kelley, James Parkes and Dan Shakespeare were excellent in the DK front row.

Fly-half Scott Harman was wide with a second minute penalty for Broadstreet but DK had looked sharp from the off and went ahead after seven minutes with a well worked try.

Quick ball through the backs to Duncan Chance saw the winger cruise in at pace for DK’s first try. Simon Fletcher added superb conversion from touch to make the score 7-0.

Broadstreet were caught offside in front of the posts on 13 minutes and Fletcher again stroked over the kick.

DK controlled the first quarter and had a gilt edged chance to go further ahead after 22 minutes following a scintillating break from Stefan Shillingford that shredded the ‘Street defence but his final pass to Simon Fletcher was just a little to far in front of it’s intended recipient.

After a couple more near misses for DK and against the run of play, Broadstreet reduced the arrears after 32 minutes in their first concerted attack of the game. Several strong forward drives took them up to the DK 10 metre line and the ball was swept out to No 8 Chris Zutic, who shrugged off a couple of tackles to score an u/c try making the score 10-5.

DK replied almost immediately with a forceful attack and following a ruck the ball was swiftly moved to debutant wing Dave Platts who had come off his left wing to join the attack on the right and scored a smart opportunist try.

Fletcher added another fine conversion from touch for DK to lead 17-5.

A break from Platts and then skipper Shakespeare should have provided a third DK try but Shaun Griffiths was just unable to hang on to Ollie’s pass with the line beckoning.

The third try had to come and after a further bout of heavy forward pressure Ian Langford forced his way over at the right-hand corner in on 40 minutes to make it 22-5.

Broadstreet responded with a stoppage time penalty after DK had failed to make an easy touch. Scott Harman’s kick made it 22-8 at the break.

The second half began badly for DK as they conceded two consecutive penalties and then lost the highly impressive Shillingford to a knee injury. He was replaced by James Jefferson.

Broadstreet took full advantage as DK struggled to regroup and after a swift attack they had a man over on the right and right wing Pete Bicknell scored a try converted by Scott Harman to bring ‘Street closer at 22-15.

Again DK’s response was immediate and this time they caught their hosts short of numbers and the ball was swept wide to Fletcher, who released Chance for his second try of the day.

Fletcher missed a long penalty for DK after 55 minutes but then scored the fourth try for DK after 56 minutes to make it 32-15 following a superb 40 metre break.

DK were again well on top and a sixth try duly followed after 67 minutes.

Replacement prop Danny Richard’s break, before an incisive break from Jordan Brookes enabled him to set up Duncan Chance for his hat-trick.

DK conceded an unnecessary penalty try at the end of the game when a Broadstreet player was held back illegally.
