AN initiative that brought Stourbridge schools together aims to get pupils across the town eating healthier.

Youngsters from 25 primary and secondary schools, plus Old Park Special School in Quarry Bank, joined forces for an event laid on to encourage children to improve their diets.

Representatives from school councils took part in food tasting workshops - trying out different fruit and vegetables donated by Sainsbury’s, as well as examining the fat and sugar content of certain foods and picking up tips for healthy lunchboxes.

They now plan to replicate the activities with their classmates in their own schools - which collectively have formed the Stourbridge Learning Partnership.

Deb Hudson, headteacher at The Ridge in Wollaston, said the event proved “a fantastic way of all working together”.

The partnership’s next collaborative event will be a trip to Parliament. Music, sports and staff development events are also in the pipeline.
