A DUDLEY foster care champion has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Kulvinder Kaur Sahota is in the running to win a Asian Women of Achievement Award in recognition of her social and humanitarian work.

The fostering service manager will join all the finalists at the awards ceremony which will be in held in London on May 19.

Kulvinder, who’s based at the Dudley office of Foster Care Associates, qualified as a social worker in 1994 and has raised thousands of pounds for many causes over the years.

She has slept rough in winter to highlight homelessness and most recently climbed Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Rees Foundation, which provides help for people with experience of care.

The awards were conceived to celebrate the often unsung Asian heroines of British life and Kulvinder was nominated for the award by Jan Rees, founder of the Rees Foundation.

Explaining why she felt Kulvinder was so deserving of this nomination, she said: "Kulvinder is a very important supporter of the Rees Foundation and she has worked tirelessly to fundraise for us.

"She made the enormous commitment of joining our team to trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and far exceeded her fundraising target.

“But it’s not just her success at raising funds; it is the way she does it - inspiring others and raising awareness for important causes along the way.

"During the Kilimanjaro trek, she was a supportive member of the group.

"Her excellent sense of humour and at times frank approach gave us all reason to smile, laugh and think carefully about the challenge we faced together.”
