FLY-tippers have dumped rubbish and two sofas along a countryside path that runs between Dudley and Sedgley.

Limestone Way has been left in a "disgusting state", according to Sedgley councillor Bill Etheridge.

He said the route, which takes in several important geological and historical sites from Dudley Castle to Sedgley Beacon, should be tourist attraction but wasn't "much of an advert for Dudley in the state it is in now".

Cllr Etheridge said even the sign on Forest Road, denoting the route, had been subject to graffiti.

He said: “I am disgusted by those whose thoughtless actions ruin the environment and the enjoyment of others.

“I have asked the council to clean the area as a matter of urgency, but it's the fly-tippers I am most annoyed with.”

However Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: "We hadn't received any reports about this issue, but now it has been brought to our attention we will be investigating the site and arranging for the clearance of any fly-tipped waste."

She continued: “It is unfair that our council tax payers should have to foot the bill for the thoughtless actions of a few individuals and we have a strong track record of successfully prosecuting people who act so irresponsibly."

Cllr Bills urged all residents to report such incidents Dudley Council Plus on 0300 555 2345 or by using the free Dudley Council smartphone app.
