BRITAIN’S best building site whistler is being sought in a national competition.

TradePoint, the trade counter concept recently launched within B&Q Warehouse stores, has launched a campaign to get Britain’s builders whistling as it tries to find the best builder’s whistle.

TradePoint is linking with David Morris, the world champion whistler, in the search.

To kick off the search, whistling heats are being held within TradePoint.

The “Whistle While You Work” campaign aims to find the best whistlers in the building trade and give all builders the confidence to purse their lips and blow.

Tradesmen will be asked by staff if they would like to enter the competition when they visit their local store and staff will judge who they think is the best in six categories: volume, range, creativity, etiquette and tunefulness plus the infamous builder’s wolf whistle.

The best entrants will then compete in the national final for the honour of becoming Britain’s Best Whistling Builder.

The final, which will be judged by David Morris, will be held at a London store in June, with the winner taking home a prize worth £1,000.

Ian Herrett, trade director, said: “With our TradePoint stores opening up across the country we’re meeting builders and tradesmen from Peterborough to Paisley and one thing they all have in common is the ability to purse their lips and belt out a great wolf whistle.

“With David Morris’s help, we’re hoping to find our best whistling builder and add a few new songs to the repertoire of the UK’s building community.”

Mr Morris said: “I’m really excited about working with TradePoint on this campaign. It sounds like great fun and I’m always keen to get the nation whistling and would love to teach our builders an alternative to the wolf whistle.”
