Churchgoers step back in time to mark milestone anniversary
Updated 6:16pm Monday 11th February 2013 in Local
MEMBERS of the congregation at Christ Church in Lye went back in time to celebrate a mammoth milestone.
Churchgoers donned Edwardian clothes, listened to a passionate Victorian sermon, sang long forgotten hymns and used the old Book of Common Prayer at their service on Sunday (February 10) as part of events organised to mark the High Street church’s 200th anniversary this year.
Rev Simon Falshaw said the church community has been “looking at the past to learn for the future”.
He added: “Christ Church is a modern and lively church looking forward to Lye in the future, but on Sunday we went back in time to 1913 to creatively reimagine what church life was like 100 years ago. It was an excellent event.”
A host of other activities and events have been lined up to take place throughout the year to mark the milestone anniversary.
The next will be a public art project taking place in the High Street around Easter time.
There will also be a history exhibition in September and a celebration weekend in November.
