BRAVE Kelly Mullings didn't forget the kindness shown to her by a little local Brierley Hill based charity after she was diagnosed with cancer late last year.

The Paul Ackrill Fund helped 23-year-old Kelly financially during her hour of need after contracting hodgkins lymphona last December.

Kelly, who lives on Hawbush Estate in Brierley Hill and is training to be a PE teacher at the University of Birmingham, intends to help return the favour this weekend by staging a fundraising day at the Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge.

Kelly is currently halfway through a six month course of treatment, but family and friends have rallied round to take part in an epic sports challenge on Sunday, April 27 from 9am to 7pm combining netball, cycling and swimming.

Kelly, a keen netball player herself, said: "It was my nurse at Russells Hall Hospital who got in touch with the Paul Ackrill Fund for me. They gave me some money and I wanted to do something for them in return.

"The Paul Ackrill Fund helps support young people living with cancer and we're hoping to raise £2,000 for them on the day. But it's not just about the money, it's also about raising the profile of the charity. I've made it a project of mine."

A total of 30 family and friends will be taking part in the sporting challenges with Kelly adding: "The Crystal have been very good to us as I've been a member of their gym for the past five or six years. They've roped off a lane of the pool and we're hoping to swim the distance of the English Channel.

"We're also raffling off a chocolate hamper in reception and staging a bucket collection outside the new Tesco store in the Crown Centre between 10am until 4pm."
