KINVER Rotary Club has received high praise for its involvement in the Rotary movement’s international effort to plant 1.2million trees in 2018 – one for every member of every club worldwide.
Although the Kinver club membership only numbers 44, it joined an initiative from the National Trust and the Woodland Trust to plant 350 saplings on Kinver Edge.
The group enlisted the help of pupils from Brindley Heath Junior School to carry out the planting.
As a result, the club was highly commended in a nationwide competition, receiving a £50 cheque and framed certificate from Rotary’s Rodney Huggins Environmental Award scheme.
In another location on Kinver Edge, three club members carried buckets of warm water to the highest point on the beauty spot to clean the Toposcope that was sited there in 1990 and refurbished four years ago.
Scrubbing brushes, washing up liquid and elbow grease were used to remove the sand and dust from the engraved surface and restore the Indian marble masterpiece to its former glory.
