TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Stourbridge solicitor who has lost his hard-fought battle against cancer.

Peter Dorr, a who enjoyed a legal career spanning more than four decades, passed away on February 20.

The 59-year-old, a partner at Wall James Chappell in Hagley Road, had fought the disease for two years - after being told in January 2008 that he had six months left to live.

Despite his illness, he continued to work up until Christmas.

John Cockling, partner at Wall James Chappell, said: “Peter will be deeply missed by not only his family but also his friends and the business associates he made throughout his time in Stourbridge and the surrounding area.”

Born on September 20 1950 in Cambridge, Peter moved to the area as a young boy.

The son of a painter and decorator, he decided the legal profession would be his calling and he qualified in June 1975 with Chappell & Perry solicitors.

He became a partner in 1976 and stayed with the Hagley Road firm until it merged with neighbhours Wall, James & Davies in October last year.

Described by his clients and colleagues as “a gentleman”, Peter - who dealt mainly with conveyancing, wills, trusts and business property - was well-respected for his work in the Stourbridge community.

In his spare time he had a passion for racing cars. He also enjoyed bridge and caravanning holidays.

Peter, who lived in Pedmore, leaves a wife Sue and grown-up sons James and Adrian.

His funeral will be held at 2.45pm on March 3 at St Mary's Church, Oldswinford.

The offices of Wall James Chappell will be closed on the day as a mark of respect.
