POPPY Appeal collectors will be at an Amblecote supermarket this week to help raise funds for The Royal British Legion, the nation’s biggest armed forces charity.

The Sandringham Way Sainsbury’s store has also joined forces with members of the legion’s Riders Worcestershire Branch to launch this year’s annual appeal in store, where they presented store manager Kirsty Rose with a certificate for their ongoing partnership.

Julie Bate, deputy Poppy Appeal organiser for Wordsley and Amblecote, is one of a number of Sainsbury’s staff, who, along with family members, volunteers of the RBL Riders Branch and Amblecote Royal British Legion, will act as appeal collectors in store until Sunday (November 13).

The store’s craft club has also created a selection of knitted, crocheted and handmade poppies to sell, with all proceeds going directly to the Royal British Legion.

Kirsty said: “I’d like to thank our customers and colleagues for their continued support for the Poppy Appeal.

“We’re really excited to welcome the collectors into our store this year and look forward to all the activities we have planned to help this fantastic cause.”

Poppy inspired products which will be on sale in the store, with all profits going to the RBL. The range will include two poppy jute bags, a tote bag, a travel coffee cup, two poppy mug designs, a tea towel, a key ring, poppy seeds and two flower bouquets.

This year, Sainsbury’s is also supporting the centenary of the Somme through sales of remembrance rose bushes, two Somme pin badges and Flanders poppy seeds.

Claire Rowcliffe, director of Fundraising at the Royal British Legion, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Sainsbury’s colleagues and customers for their support over the last 22 years.

“The legion’s vital work is entirely dependent on the public’s generous support – so please wear your poppy with pride, knowing that you are helping the armed forces community to live on.”
