CHURCHILL and Blakedown Parish Council has won a financial boost after finishing first in this year’s parish games quiz.

Kidderminster Foreign hosted the event, in which seven local parishes battled it out for the £50 prize. The quiz was held at Trimpley Social Club and hosted by Tony Powell, regular of the Wyre Forest Quiz League.

The quiz, organised by Wyre Forest District Council, was closely contested, with all to play for in the final round.

Winners Churchill and Blakedown got 68 points, second place Upper Arley, managed 66.5 points and in third place was Rushock, on 65 points.

Sue Fowler, Churchill and Blakedown team captain, said: “We were delighted to win. It was a close-run contest but a combination of scraps of obscure general knowledge and a bit of luck took us through to a narrow victory over Upper Arley.

“We were all made to feel very welcome at Trimpley and it was an enjoyable evening of friendly competition, with a few gasps of exasperation thrown in. We’ll be back to try for a repeat performance next year.”

Quizmaster Mr Powell is preparing for another quiz in aid of Kemp Hospice at Kidderminster Harriers Social Club on Tuesday, April 30, at 7.30pm. Anyone interested can contact Kemp fund-raising on 01562 756066.
