Kingswinford Ladies Social Circle.
On May 4, chairman, Sheila Evans, welcomed members and speakers ”Sisters 2”, to the meeting.
Business matters were dealt with speedily.
It was suggested we have a luncheon in September at The March Hare, in Worcester and then time for some retail therapy in the city in the afternoon.
Also it is proposed we do a winter trip to Trentham Gardens, in November to see the Christmas decorations and enjoy the unusual gifts on sale.
The speakers Jessie and Jo, opened their presentation with Jessie reading a poem, written by herself, about vintage years. The two sisters then showed us an interesting variety of antique items, made in different materials. These included a lot of silver items, an imitation ivory glove stretcher, jewellery
made by a firm called Exquisite and broaches made by a firm called Hollywood and sold in Woolworths. One broach was made by Christian Dior and quite valuable. There was a green, glass vase, containing uranium and a dainty , bone china Japanese tea set ,where one could see the face of a geisha girl in the base of the cup. Soldiers often brought these home after World War II.
Josie Smith thanked the two ladies for a very interesting talk.
Three ladies won raffle prizes.
To end the evening members could purchase jewellery from a sales table.
The next meeting will be at The Royal British Legion, in Kingswinford, on June 2, at 7.45pm. New members always welcome.
