A LYE company has said farewell to a worker who has been with the family business through three generations.

Retiring employee Gary Cooper, aged 65, from decorating and building firm GI Sykes Limited, hung up his spirit level on May 21 after 48 years with the Hayes Lane firm.

Mr Cooper, from Barn Owl Walk, Brierley Hill, began working for GI Sykes as a school leaver and has been with the company ever since.

Contracts director Jason Sykes said: “He started work with my granddad Richard Sykes Snr in the early sixties then continued with my father Gary Sykes for a good many years and then for myself and my brother.

"Gary was a well respected and major part within our workforce and he will be greatly missed, all the staff wish him a happy and long retirement."
