A CHRISTMAS coffee morning in aid of Mary Stevens Hospice has raised £1,500.

Cakes, cards and crackers were just some of the items on sale at the festive fundraiser at the Hagley Road hospice on Saturday.

Visitors were treated to a performance from pupils at Peter's Hill School, who sang Christmas carols and children were able to meet Santa in his grotto.

Staff from Barclays also got involved by manning a bottle tombola and it is hoped the bank will match fund the cash raised on the day, which would make it the most successful coffee morning to date.

Lucy Baylis, community fundraiser at the hospice, said: “The coffee morning was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and we would like to thank all those who came along and supported the event. We would like to say a special thank you to all those who helped behind the scenes and gave up their time to make the event a success.”
