FIVE staunch supporters of Stourbridge’s Mary Stevens Hospice will be pounding the streets of the capital this Sunday (July 12) to take part in the British 10K London Run.

Stourbridge couple Keith and Alison Goodwin will be running in memory of Keith's sister-in-law Helen Goodwin, who received respite care at the Oldswinford hospice before her death in February.

They have also persuaded Alison's brother Adrian Coles to take part in the race which takes place through the heart of central London.

Also competing will be Halesowen special school teacher Kerry Fazey together with close friend Mel Owen from Wombourne.

Kerry lost her father to cancer last year and now looks after her six-year-old brother Elliot who has special needs, even though she has two young children of her own.

She said: "It was a very difficult and dark time when my dad died but everyone at the hospice was so supportive.

"I saw an advert for the British 10km London run. I used to run before my children were born and I decided it would be perfect to enter and raise money for the hospice in my dad's memory."

The group has already raised close on £3,000 and anyone who would like to support them can contact the hospice's fundraising office on 01384 377778.
