CHAMPION fundraisers at The Crown Inn at Oldswinford have been counting the cash again after another charity fun day for Mary Stevens Hospice.

The Hagley Road pub has raked in more than £20,000 from last Sunday's extravaganza which saw the premises transformed into a hive of activities.

The pub hosted live music, children's games, a tombola, charity auction and a huge barbecue and licensee Chris Foxall has now raised well over a staggering £120,000 for the hospice since starting his first charity day back in 2006.

He said: "It's the third year running that we've managed to raise over £20,000. The money is still trickling in at the moment and I don't know if we'll beat last year's record of £21,000. We won't know for certain until a few weeks after."

Charlotte Schofield, head of fundraising and lottery at the hospice, said: "We can't begin to express what that kind of money means to a local charity like ourselves.

"To see the work that goes into this event and the support it receives every year just takes our breath away and makes an absolute world of difference to us and the families we support.

"We rely almost completely on the generosity of our community and we just want to say thank you to everyone involved in the organising of the day and everyone who attended and helped raise this fantastic amount of money.

"If anyone would like to make a donation to the hospice through the Crown, they can visit either the pub or the hospice fundraising office and they will ensure the donation is counted towards the total raised at this year's fun day."
