This week saw Stourbridge playing their last match of the season. They were away against Boldmere in division 1 of the Dudley league, knowing that they only needed to draw to win the league and clinch the title.

Stourbridge took an awesome team and on paper it looked like we should win easily but that is probably what Warley Quinborne thought last week when they fielded a team of superstars, and we all know how they did against us.

First to finish was Dave Scriven on board 3 who drew. Eric Horwill on board 4 won a pawn in the opening. He was then able to swap off pieces, gain an additional pawn and then win the endgame with ease.

Meanwhile on board 1, Nick Arkell weaved a mating net. His opponent unable to defend against the threats was forced to resign.

On board 2 Nic Fallowfield was a pawn ahead but accepted a draw given the match position. So we won 2.5-1.5 and are the new Dudley league champions.

The club will now be holding a series of internal events throughout the Summer which will provide the perfect opportunity for any prospective members to meet the Stourbridge players.
