A STOURBRIDGE cricketer has paid tribute to former Worcestershire County Cricket Club batsman Phil Hughes who died aged just 25.
The Australian International, who played at New Road in the 2012 season, passed away in a Sydney hospital last Thursday - two days after being struck on the head with a cricket ball during a match.
Stourbridge cricketer Matt Pardoe, captain of Kidderminster Victoria who played with Hughes during his spell at New Road, paid tribute to the popular sporting star who never regained consciousness according to Australia team doctor Peter Brukner.
He said: “What happened to Phillip is a tragedy but he leaves behind an incredible legacy.
“I am going to remember all the good times I had with him.
“He was a cheerful, social guy, who was a lot of fun, as well as a brilliant batsman and was loved everywhere he played.”
