A CAR-loving Stourbridge father and son's are to star at an upcoming motoring show with their restored classic vehicle.

Richard and Charlie Mackenzie-Seamons' beloved Ford Escort Mk1 will be among the cars on display at the Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show at Birmingham's NEC next weekend.

A life-long classic car fan and motor engineer, Richard asked his son Charlie, who was only 13-years-old at the time, to choose the classic car of his dreams.

He hoped the pair would then restore the vehicle for Charlie to keep forever.

The idea had been suggested to Richard by his own father when he was a boy, with Richard choosing a Ford Cortina Mk1 which he still uses regularly today.

After extensive internet searches the ideal car was found and although the Escort was in good condition, perfectionist Richard began a full nine-month restoration.

This included an engine rebuild, brakes upgrade and total re-spray, which now complete has resulted in the car being recently valued at £29,750.

Richard said: "Charlie now drives the car regularly on private land and is being taught, not only to drive well, but to look after it and help with its maintenance.

"All of this is a marvellous example of firing a young man's imagination, which in turn can only be of long term benefit to the classic car movement."

The Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show brings together more than 500 classic cars at various stages of the restoration process.
