POPULAR Stourbridge fashion outlet Scary Canary is closing its shop's doors this weekend due to the health of its co-owner.

Steve Pilcher and his wife Stacey are shutting the clothing side of their High Street business due to Steve’s ongoing battle against cancer.

The shop will be closing on Saturday, May 2, but the couple will now focus all their attention on their entertainment venue at the top end of High Street.

Stacey said: “Steve’s had a lot more tests recently after suffering from seizures, so it’s getting a bit too much for us to be running both.

“Our lease at the shop was running out, so a few weeks ago we discussed closing it down.

“We now plan to open the venue ‘full-time’ – which were our original plans – where we will have more shopping days, craft fairs and ladies nights.

“When we announced we were closing on facebook the reaction was ridiculous. We didn’t know people loved the shop – and us – as much as they do.

“I just want to thank everyone for their support over the past five years, but this is not the end, it is just a stepping stone to change.”

The store was originally based in Victoria Passage for four years before moving to the corner of High Street and Market Street in 2014.

Over three days this weekend, ScaryCanary The Venue is hosting a line up of music and DJs to cater for all tastes.

4 Billion Souls Festival will take place between Friday and Sunday at the High Street venue, featuring a number of acts including Ugly Ducking, Steve Strong and Opium Lord.

Tickets cost £5 for Friday, £6 for Saturday and £12 for Sunday, or a weekend ticket can be bought for £20.
