The annual post-season friendly Tony Evers match against Halesowen was held on July 8 at the Stourbridge Institute.

The match was played over 12 boards. On paper it looked like Stourbridge should win as they outgraded their opponents on most boards. Halesowen put up a great fight and the whole match depended on the result of the last game with Stourbridge needing a draw to win.

Stourbridge’s Colin Woodall played a perfect end game to queen a pawn and win the game giving Stourbridge the match 7-5.
