STOURBRIDGE singer Maggie O’Hara will be appearing in a World War I play Brummegem Pals which is coming to Dudley Town Hall in November.

Written by and starring Don Maclean and Malcolm Stent, the play tells the story of two friends - keen to give up their apprenticeships for adventure - who serve together during World War I.

Being staged at Dudley Town Hall on Friday November 13 at 7.30pm, the show charts their journey from recruitment to the Battle of the Somme.

Singer Maggie O’Hara said: “It’s great to be a part of this wonderful production and I’m particularly looking forward to performing in the Town Hall. It is a very moving story about two ordinary boys and their families caught up in the horrors of World War I. There are some lovely original songs in the play, as well as some from the trenches.”

Malcolm Stent, who wrote the play, said: “It is poignant that we are touring our play this coming November as it was 100 years ago, in November of 1915, that the Brummegem Pals Battalion, the 14th Royal Warwickshire Regiment, set sail from Folkestone to Boulogne, and from there to the front line.”

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley's cabinet member for regeneration, added: “This timely performance is sure to attract plenty of attention and we are pleased to be hosting the play at Dudley Town Hall.”

Tickets, priced £19.40, are available from the box office on 01384 812812 or 0870 320 7000 or online at www.dudley.gov.uk
