AFTER her niece was born sleeping, a Stourbridge teen will now jump from a plane to raise money for a stillbirth charity.

Emily Martin, 18, will take to the skies and jump from more than 13,000ft above the ground to raise money for Sands in honour of Beatrice Rose Anne.

The cinema worker said the neonatal death had a “devastating” impact on her sister as well as the rest of her family.

“My sister Libby and her partner Rob had a still born baby last December and it was devastating,” she said.

“I never realised how often this kind of thing happened until we lost Beatrice. People were contacting out family to offer their support as they’d been through the same trauma.

“It's not right, as babies aren't supposed to lose their lives. I thought stillbirth was a thing of the past but it’s not, it’s 15 babies a day in the UK.

“I had a crazy idea to raise money and I wanted to do something big and something scary. I wanted to do something that would also have a big impact on myself.

“So I’m doing this skydive to raise as much awareness and money as I can. I wasn’t scared when I first signed up for it, but I am terrified now!”

Emily will take part in her skydive at Tilstock Airfield in Whitchurch, Shropshire, this Saturday (November 7).

She added: “I originally set myself a fundraising target of £1,000, but I have now raised £1,050 which is great, but I now want to try and raise as much as I can for the brilliant charity.

“I am also hoping that after I do the sky dive I can make a video of my experience and story and put it on youtube to try and get a bit more money.”
