HAVING to wear the football shirts of her dreaded rivals – and even a fall in the mud – didn’t stop one Newsquest Stourbridge staff member from completing an astonishing feat for charity.

Daisy Bennett, our editorial assistant, took part in ten 10 mile runs over 100 days in aid of the MS Society.

To give herself an extra bit of motivation to run that little bit faster, the 32-year-old wore a different football team’s shirt each time.

She started the challenge on October 2 in (my very own) Wolves shirt, and ran 10 miles around the streets of Stourbridge in the top of the town’s football team as well as those of West Brom, Liverpool, Manchester City, Kinver, Aston Villa and Everton.

Daisy also completed the Birmingham Half Marathon in a Kidderminster Harriers shirt before running her tenth and final 10 miles on her birthday, Saturday January 9, in her beloved Manchester United top.

She said: “It was really hard, much harder than I thought it was going to be, especially when the weather got very bad over the last couple of runs.

“I thought I would get quicker as they went along, but I actually ended up going slower. I’m going to put that down to the weather!

“I didn’t suffer any injuries, but I did fall over into mud on my last one. I was glad it happened then though, as I doubt I would have had the confidence to carry on had it happened in one of my earlier ones.”

Daisy came up with the fundraising challenge after coming across a volunteer for the charity who was on crutches and struggling to hold his collection bucket.

She added: “I had a lot of people come up to me while I was running saying that their relatives and friends had suffered from multiple sclerosis (MS), which really gave me the motivation to do it through the winter months.

“So far I have collected £900 for the charity when I add up both the offline and online donations, which is great.

“However, I don’t think I’ll run 10 miles again. I’ll stick to doing 10km ones from now on, but I’m very pleased that I was able to complete it.”
