A RECORD number of cub scouts, including 170 from Stourbridge District, are getting set to celebrate 100 years of cub scouting this weekend.

There will be more than 1,140 young people and adult volunteers at Blackwell Adventure in Bromsgrove between Friday (July 15) and Sunday (July 17) to take part in the organisation’s ‘Cubs 100 Camp’.

Cub packs from across town will descend on the area to take part in many activities, including archery, climbing, caving, zorbing, zip wire, 3G swing and swimming, where they will certainly experience plenty of fun and adventure.

Joining the 170 young people from Wollaston, Halfpenny Green, Amblecote, Pedmore, Kinver, St Thomas’, Norton and Oldswinford packs will be 52 adult leaders.

The cubs will be taking part in many celebrations in the run up to the ‘Renewal of their Promise’ on the December 16, which will mark 100 years to the day since cub scouting started.

Mark Bache, assistant county commissioner for cub scouts in West Mercia, said: “It’s fantastic that so many cub scouts and adult volunteers are coming together for this special occasion.

“It is certainly going to be a very memorable weekend for everyone and the cub scouts will enjoy every minute.”
