Stourbridge Chess Club

Stourbridge’s Birmingham division 3 team played at Solihull on Wednesday and drew 3-3. This was an exciting match with no drawn games. Both sides won three games with Sam Bradley, Tony Shaw and Martin Berridge all playing well to win against higher graded opponents. Unfortunately, Stourbridge really needed 2 points to pull clear from the relegation zone. They now have to sit and wait until 9th March for the next match in this division.

On Thursday Stourbridge played at Walsall Kipping in Wolverhampton division 1. At full strength Stourbridge would have had little chance, but without their top two boards hopes of getting anything from the match were next to zero, especially when Walsall Kipping fielded their strongest possible team.

The final result was 5½-½ to Walsall Kipping with Eric Horwill drawing. Technically, his opponent lost on time due to a misunderstanding of the time controls but Eric was gentlemen enough to offer him a draw.

The match result leaves Stourbridge in real danger of relegation.
