Stourbridge Ladies Society
Thirty eight members and visitors of the society met on March 28 to hear Paul McGuire's talk entitled "I was a Butlin's Red Coat".
He took us back to the 1950 when he became a Red Coat at the Butlins in Pwhelli. He was given two of the famous red blazers but had to but the rest of the uniform, which was white and had to be pristine at all times.
His duties as a Red Coat included meeting the trains, helping the holiday makers settle into their chalets, as well as being part of the entertainment team. He had worked with many well known comedians who were starting out on their careers. After leaving Butlins, he worked for the BBC as a warm up man at live performances being televised. Mr McGuire then drew the raffle tickets and he was thanked for giving such a lively and amusing talk.
The society has met in the church hall for the last forty years, but are now moving to the Amblecote Room in Stourbridge Town Hall. The meetings will continue to be on the fourth Tuesday of each month, starting at 2pm.
The next meeting is on April 25 when Pat Green will give a talk on "Body matters".
