A DECADE of volunteering in Stourbridge is being celebrated by a High Street building society as part of Volunteers’ Week, which runs until Wednesday (June 7).

Staff at the town’s branch of Yorkshire Building Society have donated more than 54 hours of their time to local community since its volunteering scheme started in 2007, most recently at The What? Centre which provides support for young people.

The branch is now seeking new opportunities to help other community groups, charities and good causes in their staff’s own time.

Groups in Stourbridge that need voluntary support can call in to the branch to find out ways they might be able to benefit from the society’s scheme.

Adam Keeley, manager of Yorkshire Building Society in Stourbridge, said: “Volunteers’ Week is a great reminder of the contribution voluntary work can make across the UK and we know first-hand about the impact it has brought in Stourbridge.

“Over the past 10 years we have seen that time can be just as valuable a gift as money to charities and community groups.

“That’s why the society’s programme gives us the opportunity to support projects and charities in our local community here in Stourbridge and we want to hear from more local groups that need support.”

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which takes place between June 1 and 7 each year, celebrating the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

The building society’s volunteering scheme allows every staff member up to 31 hours paid leave a year to help out at a charity or good cause of their choice.
