A SPORTY student from Wall Heath has been honoured with an award by Olympic chief Lord Sebastian Coe.

Ross Ensor, who coaches and manages the Under 8’s Kewford Eagles football team in Wall Heath, was awarded the Flames Young Leader of the Year Highly Commended award at a glittering ceremony in Leicester.

The 18-year-old Dudley College student was chosen from more than 5,000 young leaders who took part in the national Flames: Lighting the Way programme after he impressed the judges with his commitment and enthusiasm for getting children engaged in sport.

Ross, who carried the Olympic torch through Dudley as part of the official relay earlier this year, said: “It’s a huge honour to be commended for something that you like doing anyway.

“Meeting Seb Coe has been the pinnacle, it’s been such an honour to meet a man who has accomplished so much.”

As well as Lord Coe, Ross also met Flames Ambassador and Olympic Hockey bronze medallist Nicola White at the event.
