Chairman Mary Jones welcomed 42 members and one visitor for a three-course lunch and to hear speaker Councillor Michael Evans, former Mayor of Dudley. Being Mayor takes seven days a week and sometimes five times a day. He particularly enjoyed welcoming visitors to the Mayor's chambers and ended his term of office with the Mayor's Ball. Over the year £24, 400 was raised for his charities, SAFA and Leukaemia.
The chairman then surprised everyone with the news that Betty Griffin, who had been treasurer for 20 years, was retiring and moving to the South Coast.
Members expressed their gratitude for her devotion to the club and presented her with a bouquet. Sandra Chappell and Jan Burrows had kindly agreed to take over as Treasurer and Registrar.
