A BIG-HEARTED fish and chip shop boss is issuing an SOS to people to help raise money for two charities linked to his trade.

Loucas Partali, of Wollaston Fish Bar, a loyal supporter of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the Fishermen’s Mission is opening his shop on Sunday November 10 between 5pm and 9pm and donating the profits to the RNLI.

And to celebrate the National Federation of Fish Friers Centenery, he will be taking part in their Chip In for Charity promotion by issuing 100 vouchers to pensioners to enable them to buy a fish and chip cone for £1 on Monday November 11 in aid of the Fishermen’s Mission - which supports UK fishermen and their families.

Mr Partali said: “We all enjoy good fish and chips, and I and all in my trade rely on fishermen to go out and catch the raw ingredients for us, but very seldom do we give a thought to just how dangerous a job they do.

“They often have to call upon the services of volunteer crews of the RNLI who respond in all weathers and at all times of day or night. The job these volunteer men and women do is appreciated by everyone in the industry and, hopefully, by everyone enjoying a good fish and chip meal.

“This is an opportunity for all of us to show our support for our fishermen and our volunteer lifeboat crews.”

RNLI Stourbridge branch secretary Sue Coombes said: “We are very grateful to Loucas - during the time that he and his staff will be serving, at least four lifeboats will be launched around the coast of the UK and the Republic of Ireland to go to the aid of those in trouble at sea.

“The shouts may be taking place physically many miles away, but the rescues will actually be starting here in Wollaston because without Loucas’s support, and the support of his customers, those cries for help could not be answered and many more lives would be lost.

“We hope he gets lots of support on both days.”

As part of the fundraiser, one of the RNLI’s D Class inshore lifeboats will be on display on Sunday evening along with equipment used by lifeboat crew members and beach lifeguards.

Free Sea Safe activity books and other resources will also be available for children to help the RNLI raise awareness of sea and beach safety practices.
