May 12 was a significant night the the Guild, as we celebrated our 50th anniversary 1965-2015.

The committee had organised quite a party, and in attendance were a few founder members, visiting from neighbouring guilds. Guest of honour, Sheila Baker, a trustee of the Townswomen’s Guilds’ National Executive Committee, Federation chairman Margaret Tew.

Vice chairman Hazel Needham had put together quite a collection of memorabilia, including some very interesting photographs of members from long ago, taken on various guild occasion.

A tempting buffet with drinks had been prepared, including a special celebration cake, beautifully decorated in Guild colours. Maggie O’Hara then entertained us admirably with rousing songs, some of which evoked memories of fifty years ago and with which most members joined in.

This was followed by a raffle, with many prize winners. Sheila Baker have a thank you speech and informed us that the numerous photographs she had taken would be uploaded to the Townswomen’s Guild website for everyone to view.

Thanks were also expressed by Margaret Tew. The next meeting is at 7.30pm on June 9 at St James Church Hall, Wollaston with speaker David Hickman.The competition involves memorabilia of old Stourbridge.
