POLICE officers have set up a new base in Wollescote to help tackle anti-social behaviour in Stevens Park.

The Pedmore and Stourbridge East team have been given access to the Dudley Council building on the park following community complaints.

The local policing team will work alongside council workers and Friends of the Wollescote Park to carry out patrols around the park throughout the day and into the evening in a bid to deter teens from drinking and smoking drugs, playing football on the Bowling Green and leaving litter and smashed bottles near the children's play areas.

Police Constable John Redfern said: "This is a really positive step in us tackling and reducing anti-social behaviour in the park.

"Our main aim is to take action against the few people that cause these issues in the park, so it can be a pleasant and enjoyable place for residents and youngsters to enjoy."

Councillor Steve Waltho, Dudley’s cabinet member responsible for community safety, said: "Working in partnership with the police we can continue to promote the ongoing positive use of the park.

"Increasing police surveillance will provide a secure and safe environment for everyone who visits."

Anyone who witnesses acts of anti-social behaviour or criminal damage is urged to call police on the 101 number.
