A WORDSLEY couple had the wedding of their dreams after getting their favourite pub to host their big day.

After spending many happy times in the Talbot Hotel, in Stourbridge, Brian Heathcock, 73, was desperate to get married there to his fiancé, 48-year-old Catherine Jenner.

He approached the pub’s general manager Shaun Melson who was happy to oblige with the couples request.

The Talbot, located in a building which dates back to the 17 century, had never hosted a wedding before so had to apply for an official licence especially for the loving couple.

The pair, who originally met almost 30 years ago before parting company, tied the knot at the historic High Street establishment on May 30.

Brian said: “It was such a fantastic day, I couldn’t have wished for anything better.

“The hotel was brilliant. The management and staff were absolutely wonderful and made the day for us. We cannot fault anything about it.

“It’s such an iconic venue and they have already had two or three couples after us wanting to get married there and we would recommend it to anyone.”

Brian and Catherine, who have an age gap of 25 years, first met when they were both working on the railway about 28 years ago.

They were reunited again 18 months ago and Brian said he could not be happier with life as a newly married man.

“My life has changed but I am loving every day,” he said. “I don’t see our age gap as a problem and it hasn’t caused any issues so far.

“I’m sure something will crop up eventually, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

“We are planning to have a honeymoon later in the year in the Maldives and obviously I am very much looking forward to our first holiday together as husband and wife.”
