A COMMUNITY group in Wordsley which aims to help tackle low level issues is appealing for residents to join their fight.
Street Watch – a scheme run by the community in partnership with West Midlands Police – want to cover a wider proportion of the ward, but to do it the current members need extra support.
The group, which met for the second time recently, is co-ordinated by local councillor Derrick Hemingsley, who said the group wants to provide reassurance to the community, as well as engaging with them to discover their issues in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour.
As part of their first two meetings, the group’s members have taken to picking up litter around Wordsley Park.
Cllr Hemingsley said: “We added a litter pick to our patrol and found the litter in our park has dropped since we introduced Street Watch last month.”
Wordsley Street Watch currently consists of Cllr Hemingsley, who is also chairman of the friends group of Wordsley Park, his fellow park friends and Councillor Paul Brothwood, but to cover a wider area of the ward greater numbers are required.
Cllr Hemingsley added: “Passion for the safety of the community is centre of my role as councillor and chairman of Friends of Wordsley Park.
“I would ask any resident who would like to join our street watch to get in touch with me so we can cover other areas of Wordsley.”
To volunteer with the group call Cllr Hemingsley on 07771 977746.
