THE Royal Air Force Association held their annual Battle of Britain Parade and Ceremony at the Waterside Cemetery this week with the help of youngsters from Bengeworth Primary Academy.

More than 50 people attended the service on Monday morning in Evesham to remember the fallen.

A dozen standards of the local branches of the RAF Association and Royal British Legion were well represented and a wreath was laid on the military graves from both the First and Second World Wars.

Robin Phillips, secretary of the RAF Association, said: "It went awfully well. The mayor came along and he was brilliant. The wreath was laid by Alan Lloyd who was part of the air crew in the Second World War.

The service also remembered John Turner, who officiated the services, after he died last year.

"It's important to do this for us and to just spare a couple of minutes in a whole year to remember what they did is tremendously important."

It was for this reason Mr Phillips said he was so pleased the Year 5 pupils attended the service again.

"We were delighted they came," he said. "It makes the thing because you have the people that usually come along but they are older and they like to see the young children there as well."

Hayley Potter, deputy head at Bengeworth Primary Academy, said: "We chose the children in Year 5 because they study World War Two in the curriculum and we were invited by the RAF Association.

"A group went last year as well. It's really to keep a link with the youngsters, who won't remember or know much about it."
