A 63-YEAR-OLD Kingswinford man caught drink driving after a tip-off to police has avoided jail time.

Paul Judson was found to be three times over the permitted level when he was stopped by officers, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Judson, of Lesley Drive, admitted driving with excess alcohol and also breaching a 26-week suspended prison sentence.

The suspended sentence was imposed on Judson at Wolverhampton Crown Court in September last year for assault causing actual bodily harm against his long-term partner

Recorder Cieran Rankin told Judson that until recently he had been a man of unblemished character - and he said it was to his credit that he was taking full advantage of the course designed to deal with his alcohol problems.

The offence of drink driving clearly crossed the custody threshold, the Recorder said, but he ruled he was just able to allow Judson to keep his freedom.

Judson was given a two-month jail term suspended for a year and ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work in the community

He was further disqualified from driving for a year and ordered to pay £250 costs.

Howard Searle, prosecuting, said police received a call that Judson had been drinking and when he was stopped by officers he gave them an alcohol reading of 101 microgrammes when the limit was 35.
