WORCESTERSHIRE County Council is considering investing £1 million in energy efficiency to save money in the long run.

The plans for the spend to save fund will be discussed during the council's cabinet meeting at County Hall tomorrow.

It is hoped the proposal will save money over the next 10 years, as well as reducing carbon emissions.

Conservative councillor, Adrian Hardman, the county council's cabinet member for finance, said: "Our efforts to reduce spending have given us an investment opportunity that will pay off in 10 years' time, both financially and environmentally.

“If cabinet approves the proposal, we'll be doing the groundwork for future generations to enjoy."

The initial money would be used to improve building insulation and replace older lighting systems, as well as pursuing renewable energy schemes, such as solar power.

If approved, the project would be given an initial three years, with a review in the final year, to see whether more action would be needed to achieve savings equal to the investment within 10 years.
