I ATTENDED The Longlands Action Meeting last Wednesday as a local resident and was horrified to hear £3500 of the community fund being allocated to the Air Training Corp centre for laptops, tablets, computers, camera and software.

This centre is used by 61 young people, only 12 of whom live in our borough, let alone in our specific area.

Several members of the public spoke out against this application pointing out that the ATC can access funds from the Military of Defence.

In spite of this, the councillors voted 4 to 1 in favour of granting this money; one of the reasons given was “well, we’ve got the money there in the budget”.

I can think of many more deserving community groups in the area who could make much better use of this money.

The trouble is that the council has failed to publicise this community forum pot of money.

So if you know a deserving group, get them to apply before our councillors give away more of our money to benefit people outside the borough.
