THE veil is proving to be a very controversial issue in modern Britain, and some would say the wearing of the full face veil here is a step too far.
Consequently I believe the initial ban on Muslim students wearing the niqab by Birmingham Metropolitan College was the correct decision as it upheld their code of conduct and addressed fears about safety plus any doubts about identification.
We had strong words from the college principal who defended the policy, but within a matter of a couple of days the college lifted the ban after constant and continual criticism from in general, the Muslim community, much to the concern of many who questioned why such a long standing regulation about the use if headwear can be overturned so quickly.
The previous edition of the Stourbridge News had the headline entitled “What’s happened to our college?” regarding the rushed takeover of Stourbridge College by the BMC.
Alot of people will now be asking a similar question but for very diffferent reasons.
